Trends In the Automotive Industry 2010-2011
Overall, 2010 was a better year for the global automotive industry. Many aspects of the marketplace either moved forward or were reconciled. With sales rebounding to 6.9 million units, this year was far better than 2009 (one of the hardest years ever). And the good news is that next year is forecasted to be even better. Adding to the momentum will be the introduction of more hybrid models than ever before and a few of the first pure electric vehicles will finally be hitting the road. This new trend (alt-energy transportation) can only escalate in the coming years.
What does this mean to the the various segments of the industry?
This turns out to be a very interesting question. During the past year, as TransitList compiled its 2011 eDirectory , we were in dialog with hundreds of companies from all corners of the market. The perceptions and answers regarding this question vary widely from company to company. For some, it’s business as usual (not really a priority). Emerging alternative energy technologies and their respective marketplace are concepts of the far distant future and are not “ripe” enough to devote time and resources. For others, it represents the relief they have seeking and their outlook is cautiously optimistic.
There exist pockets or segments of companies that provide a product or service (or both) and are acting as one-stop solutions for early adopters of alternative energy transportation technologies. These pioneering organizations are quite versatile, flexible and insightful. TransitList will be profiling a few of these companies in the coming months. These exclusive profiles will provide a glimpse into their business models, industry perspectives and motivation going forward as the new year comes into being.
Overall, from our vantage point, 2011 looks to be an improvement (in many ways) over 2010. More will certainly be revealed. Stay tuned.
PS- TransitList would like to thank everyone who has helped to make this project become material. We wish everyone (and their families) an incredible holiday season. Peace & blessings to all.
